Poole Quay marina takes fresh look

Poole Harbour Commissioners are looking at how they are going to run the 105berth Poole Quay marina they took over when the previous owners went bust, writes Iain Sutherland .

"We are having a fresh look at the business to try and work out if there is a more efficient way of running it, " said Jim Stewart, PHC chief executive and a director of the new company.

Half the marina is set aside for the fishing fleet and that won't change, he added.

We have had several meetings with the fishermen and they are very supportive of the action we have taken, he said.

"We would like to generate more revenue from the yacht side and we are looking at a number of issues there at the moment, " he told BB . One of these is the legal agreement that from April to October all berths are for visiting yachts, although winter lets are allowed from November until March.

PHC were 27% stakeholders in Poole Harbour Services, whose main shareholder, Poole Developments Ltd, went into administration in June.

A rescue deal was quickly worked out by Grant Thornton administrator Duncan Swift, who said: "Apart from the two joint venture partners who first established the yacht haven, everyone else will be paid out in full."
