Tory floats Boscombe marina plan
01 Jan 2004
The idea of building a marina at Boscombe, Bournemouth has been floated by prospective Tory candidate for the area, Tobias Ellwood, writes Iain Sutherland .
His suggestion came after Bournemouth Borough Council's cabinet approved its own plans for Boscombe seafront, including a refurbished pier, family attractions and an artificial surf reef.
He said a 300-berth marina could cost between £5.4 million and £12.7 million and could be built within four years. It could be paid for by building flats and shops on the seafront in a scheme that could be worth up to £23 million.
Previous marina plans have been turned down on the grounds of being too costly.
