Worthy of closer inspection

DAME Award winner in the "Marina equipment, boatyard equipment and boat construction tools and materials" was the Probe Vision System from Redmariner.

The system is, says Redmariner, an economically priced, high quality, totally portable, inspection camera system that is used on board vessels and also under the water. Full colour pictures are displayed on a handy TFT screen and can be downloaded for file or onward transmission.

According to David Ross, a director of Redmarine, the system can be used for inspecting propellers, hulls, jet ducts, behind panels, under floors, stern tubes, ducting, pipe work, wiring runs, nuclear areas(! ), diver training, retrieving foreign bodies or tools and event recording.

He said the Fire Brigade, in particular, seemed to be using the system to inspect road traffic accidents before cutting victims out of the wreckage.

The Bomb Squad is another user, apparently, and Ross tells of how HM Customs & Excise asked him to help them search a boat one day. He was able to find 20kgs of cocaine secreted in the seacocks?.

Ross says he ran out of brochures on the second day of METS and the 'phone hasn't stopped ringing since he got back to the UK.
