Bruntons launch custom propeller division

According to Bruntons, unlike most propeller companies, they design and manufacture virtually every type of propeller in their own factories. Apart from fixed propellers, the company supplies feathering and folding propellers and surface drive units.
The most marked difference between Bruntons and its competitor is, they say, that they are custom designed to suit the specific application.
Their fixed pitch propellers for motor yachts have optimised blade area, skew and pitch distribution to minimise noise and vibration, whilst maintaining high efficiency.
Even their sailboat propellers have shape, they claim, unlike the flat bladed units supplied by some others. The result is that the company can take a yacht installation and, in much the same way as a fixed propeller would be designed, put in the right degree of pitch, skew etc to provide the vessel with optimum power and efficiency whilst still minimising drag under sail.
Bruntons quotes as an example a recently launched Baltic Yachts custom built 147ft vessel fitted with a 700hp diesel engine. Feeding that amount of power to the propeller, whilst containing noise and vibration to acceptable levels, was apparently proving extremely difficult.
Bruntons custom designed a four-blade Varifold propeller - pictured here - the largest commissioned so far, which is giving excellent results in service.
