The outboard, according to Honda
01 Jul 2004
The BF 150 features what Honda claims are some of the finest technical solutions in the outboard sector, achieving excellent performance, outstanding fuel economy and comfort of use. The introduction of the BF 150 extends Honda's range of 4-stroke outboard engines to cover all applications between 2.3 hp and 225 hp, with 20 different models available in more than 125 versions.
The BF150 was designed to reach the highest performances in its category, to meet the CARB 2008 Marine Engine Emission Standards and to provide the best fuel economy and comfort of use.
It uses the company's VTEC system to deliver high torque at low end rpm and high power and torque at high rpm. It has a variable air intake system to provide higher engine efficiency throughout rpm range. Lean burn technology gives what Honda claims is unrivalled fuel economy, while its 3-way cooling system offers optimum power generation. The twin balancer shaft gives very low engine vibration. In all, 37 patents and rights apply to this motor.
The power unit is a 4cylinder, in-line, 16-valve DOHC design, of 2,354cm 3displacement. It uses several components from the 2.4 litre engine used in the Honda Accord and shares major design features with it.
Honda says the BF 150 is the first 150hp marine outboard engine to feature DOHC VTEC technology. It is also equipped with the Variable Air Intake system, the Multi Points Sequential Fuel Injection, and, another first for the marine sector, the LAF sensor achieving very low fuel consumption. The combination of all these technologies provide a superior blend of power, torque and fuel economy all through the rpm range.
BF 150 reaches the highest performance, whilst simultaneously developing higher comfort of use, reliability and respect for the environment.
