Beale Park has wider appeal

More than 4,000 people visited Beale Park Boat Show 2004 at Pangbourne on the Thames last month.

This year's show, for the first time supported by the Environment Agency (EA) and the Thames Boating Trades Association (TBTA), was expanded to appeal to a wider audience.

"By working with the Environment Agency and with the support of the Thames Boating Trades Association on this newly expanded event, we managed to cater for a wider audience, offering something for everyone from keen boaters to families with young children, " said show chairman, Richard Howard. "This is the first year we've decided to put on a more diverse range of attractions but judging by its success we are sure it's the start of something which will continue for many more years to come."

"It was great to see so many families enjoying themselves and taking part in boating activities they may not have tried before, " said Eileen McKeever, the EA Thames waterway manager.
