Chesil Marine Business Association

Chairman Ron Davis told BB that while the marine industry works together on a daily basis, the West Dorset area has no cohesive group to represent it as a whole. "It's accepted that it is very difficult as independent operations to properly present our needs to the appropriate providers and authorities."
It is also often very difficult as a local company to keep up with the developments, and planned developments, that are happening in the local vicinity, he added. The CMBA has been created to act as a cohesive link, working on behalf of the industry to provide a voice and pass on important information.
The CMBA can work with the local government, harbour authorities, SWRDA, Business Link, British Marine Federation, training providers and other organisations that we all need to be able to progress our businesses in a positive way.
Although based in the Weymouth & Portland areas, there are no defined borders and is aimed at assisting any members that work within this area, said Davis. "We are not an association that intends to limit our membership based on the size of the business or it's head office location. What we want to see is a fair distribution of assistance, whether through grants or services provided, to aid the benefit of the small operator as well as helping to develop the larger operations."
