Wainwright steps aside at Sealine
01 Jul 2004
von Sydow will take the reins on August 1, allowing Wainwright more time to take life a little easier than the frenetic pace he has been keeping as CEO of Sealine.
But not that easy, he told BB.
"That's not in my nature, " he said. "Something may come up - maybe something to do with wine? I have some investments in that area."
Wainwright will maintain close contact with Sealine and Brunswick. "He will continue his role with the Brunswick Boat Group, " said Dusty McCoy, president of Brunswick's Boat Group. He's one of the great entrepreneurs, he added, and his business flair will be put to good use across the entire Brunswick Group.
McCoy made the announcement at the launch of Sealine's new T60 motor yacht in Jersey.
von Sydow - a 42-year-old Swede - joined Sealine in 2000 after having served in senior management positions with General Motors, Electrolux and Sunseeker. He will report to Victoria Reich, president of Brunswick Euro-pean Group.
von Sydow told BB his plans right now were to continue with the plans put in place by Wainwright and McCoy. "There's lots to do, but right now it's carry on."
The T60 is Sealine's biggest boat yet and shows departures from the company's recent construction methods. The first three T60s will be a conventional lay up, but new lamination facilities at the Kidderminster plant will mean production will move to resin infusion with the intention of moving to zero styrene emissions.
