Water-way (geddit? ? ? ) for a waterways office to move

Last month British Waterways (BW) managers decided to adopt a more traditional and relaxing form of transport to move equipment to their new office at New Port Downie - a canal barge, writes Mike Balmforth.

"Both old and new Lowlands Canals' offices are situated right on the banks of the Forth & Clyde, so it made perfect sense to bring some of our bits and pieces by canal boat from the Rosebank office, " explained Richard Millar, manager Lowland Canals.

"Although the canals are now predominantly used for leisure activities there are still opportunities to move freight by inland waterway. It may take a little bit longer but there is no denying it is a far more environmentally friendly and stress free form of transport."

The new HQ at the Falkirk Wheel has more space, is better equipped, and is situated at the heart of the Lowland Canals network, making it the ideal location for the team to manage operations on the Forth & Clyde and Union canals.

Lowland Canals' new address is: New Port Downie, Lime Road, Tamfourhill, Falkirk, FK1 4RS.

The unchanged telephone number is 01463 233140.
