Honda offers reward for outboard outlaws
01 Jun 2004
Right back to its first offering in 1964, Honda has only ever made outboards with 4-stroke engines. The company's founder, the late Soichiro Honda, encapsulated the company's decision in the company philosophy with the quote: "Because the water raises rice, and the fishes live in the water, I don't want to contaminate it."
"Since 1964 no other manufacturer has amassed as much experience in the development of 4-stroke technology, " said Jeff Dodds head of marketing at Honda (UK) Power Equipment. "We have a very good reputation for durability and we regularly come across very old Honda outboards still being serviced and kept in regular use by our dealer network, some would even be considered antiques."
To raise awareness of our expertise and long-standing leadership of the 4-stroke sector we have posted a reward for information about the four oldest outboards still in operation in the UK, he added.
"The owners of the oldest four engines we find will each win £1,000 of Honda Marine vouchers, " said Dodd. "Whether they choose to replace their outboards remains to be seen.
Let's face it - they are still alive and kicking."
