Portgordon set for leisure transformation
01 Jun 2004
The long defunct Moray Firth harbour of Portgordon may join the increasing number of small harbours set to transform themselves into leisure marine facilities, writes Mike Balmforth.
Portgordon is two miles west of Buckie and nine miles east of Lossiemouth and a local action group has commissioned a feasibility study into its suitability as a leisure harbour.
As Scotland's north eastern fishing industry declines and concentrates in a few major ports, a succession of small harbours have either already switched to leisure use or are investigating the possibilities.
Recreational boating in the Moray Firth is growing as fast as facilities become available.
