Windboats celebrate multi-anniversary

Anniversaries are always worth celebrating and if you have four major milestones to mark then throw a really big party, which is what Windboats Marine did at the Norwich Hilton Hotel on May 7, writes Mark Wakelin.

The statistics are impressive: 80 years of continuous boatbuilding for Windboats itself; 40 years since current chairman and managing director Trevor James joined the company and 30 years since he purchased the company.

On top of that, Windboats has just completed its 200th boat for Oyster Marine in a business relationship going back for 20 years.

The 200 evening-attired guests included current and some former staff and many of the principal figures in the East Anglian boat building world, including, of course, Richard Matthews and other leading figures from Oyster.

Trevor James said: "Building high quality customised yachts as we do requires teamwork and cooperation and over the years our business colleagues have become very much our friends, " Trevor James told Boating Business.

"It was a great pleasure to host the evening and I was personally very proud that our guests included representatives of many of the longest established and best respected undertakings in the British boating industry. It demonstrates that East Anglian boat building has both tradition and the strength in depth to compete in today's markets."
