Z-Brane prevents bio-film

Spectra Watermakers say it has finally eliminated the need for pickling membranes, a procedure required to keep bio-film and the resultant microbes at bay whenever the watermaker is not operated for a week or more.

The company's engineers have developed what they call the Z-Brane, which incorporates a capacitive electrode inside the membrane. As water enters the membrane it's exposed to a powerful electrostatic field charging all water molecules in a positive orientation.

According to Spectra, the positive charge prevents particles from bonding with one another, preventing the formation of sludge, scale and biological fouling. The say bacteria are also rendered inactive and unable to absorb nutrition.

An added benefit, says Spectra, is that by installing the Z-Brane in the membrane, the whole unit is much more compact to install.
