Deutsch makes the connection
01 Mar 2004
Designed to create an interface box between electrical instrumentation on all marine craft, they say the Electronic Interconnect System provides ease of use connectivity for all commercial and private marine users.
One use in the near future will be connecting GPS and VHF radio equipment to allow distress calls to be sent digitally.
By February 2005 all sea going vessels will be required to carry Digital Selective Calling equipment, as coast guards cease to monitor the emergency distress channel 16.
The Electronic Interconnect System will allow connectivity between the GPS system and the VHF radio to ensure distress calls automatically relay the relevant information to the emergency services.
As the solution uses the same connectivity technology as Deutsch's Quick Connect, the Electronic Interconnect System eliminates the mess and confusion of wiring important instruments on board any craft.
The connector has a positive click lock to hold and seal the two components. The same lock allows instant separation of the two to break the connection.
Deutsch says this allows owners to store their GPS, radios, fishfinders and other kit in safe places when the vessel is moored and unattended. One simple push connects the equipment quickly when it's needed.
