Sportsboat show could affect RIBEX

Ocean Village Marina, Southampton, owned by MDL, has announced the Southampton Sports Boat and RIB Show to run over the May Bank Holiday weekend (May1-3) and is targeting the sports boat, RIB, and PWC markets, writes Iain Sutherland .

According to marina manager Bill Knight, Avon Inflatables, EP Barrus, Ribtec, Ribeye and Yamaha, have all signed up and he's hoping to have 60 exhibitors and attract 15,000 visitors.

Hugo Montgomery Swan, editor of RIB International magazine, organisers of RIBEX to be held at Cowes Yacht Haven (June4-6) said: "We're not entirely sure what effect this new show will have on ours, we'll have to wait and see, however I imagine it will be more lifestyle orientated than RIBEX. We have a very dedicated RIBEX audience, visitors who know what they're getting - a show totally dedicated to the RIB market."

He added that RIBEX's new venue for 2004, Cowes Yacht Haven, had been specifically chosen to enable visitors to test RIBs out on the water. "Sea trialling during the show makes RIBEX unique, " he said.
