Mastervolt's Combi inverter/charger

Mastervolt has introduced the Mass Combi, a sine wave inverter/battery charger combination based on switchmode technology.

The company says it's 50 % lighter than the units with transformers and offers silent operation and compactness.

Mastervolt says it's the only European manufacturer applying this switch mode technology.

Two 2kW models will be available: a 12V version, with 100A charge current which includes a separate 5A output for the starter battery, and a 24V DC version providing 60A, also fitted with a second 5A output.

The inverter supplies a 230V sine wave output voltage with a flexible capacity of up-to 4kW (peak power) and a 2kW continuous output. Mastervolt says modern electronically regulated appliances like washing machines, dishwashers, microwaves, TV sets and computers, LCD/plasma screens and other sensitive equipment will operate trouble free.

The charge characteristics are identical to Mastervolt stand alone chargers: 3-stage charge curve, with temperature sense and voltage compensation, not vulnerable to the quality of the input voltage and therefore suitable for use with smaller (petrol) generators.

According to Mastervolt an important feature of the Mass Combi is the ability to deliver additional AC power when shore power is restricted. The battery is used to provide extra power through the inverter.

During periods when AC power demand is low, the batteries are being recharged. The Mass Combi's will also be capable of operating in parallel with the generator and/or a second Mass Combi (these two features will be available late 2004).

Mastervolt says unique features are offered through the wide range of remote control panels. They offer remote on/off control, accurate Volt/Amp/Ah counting of the DC system and historical information about the battery.

These new products will become available mid 2004.
