Microprocessor control for big block sterndrive

Mercury Racing has announced its HP1075 SCi sterndrive, a 9.1 litre big block V8 with SmartCraft PCM 03 microprocessor. Mercury says it puts out 1,075HP (802kW).

The Mercury-exclusive SmartCraft PCM 03 distributorless controller continuously monitors and varies the amount of boost to provide consistent power, optimising fuel, spark timing and knock control for each cylinder independently.

The PCM 03 controllerdriven Mercury Engine Guardian system warns of problems and reduces power automatically if necessary.

The HP1075 SCi is equipped with the digital SmartCraft controller area network (CAN) system, a mesh of sensors that provide data on all boat functions: fuel flow, fuel used, fuel level, available range, engine speed, water depth, trim angle, water pressure, water tank level, battery voltage and waste tank condition. The CAN communicates to the skipper via SmartCraft SC5000 monitor and gauges, giving real-time readings.

The unit boasts Lysholm twin-screw superchargers with multi-port fuel injection, eight ignition coils to eliminate plug fouling, twin flame arresters that act as air filters to keep the induction system clean and efficient, high velocity cooling, dry sump engine lubrication for reduced friction and improved power, a balanced steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods and aluminium pistons, race-prepared aluminium cylinder heads, high performance roller camshaft, plus 65-amp charging. The sterndrive used is a dry sump Mercury Six.
