Merlin's Lifeline AGM battery can't leak

The domestic battery bank is possibly one of the most important components on board, says Merlin Equipment.

They say ordinary automotive batteries simply aren't up to the job of regular domestic deep cycling, are easily spilled and are relatively difficult to recharge.

Meeting the same safety classification as gel batteries for location in cabin spaces, Merlin says its new Lifeline batteries can be mounted in any orientation, even upside down. Merlin says they cannot leak acid under any circumstances - even if cracked open.

By using the latest AGM (absorbed glass mat) technology, Merlin Lifeline batteries also have a lower internal resistance than other batteries, meaning they charge quicker than conventional lead/acid or gel types and, in many cases, up to 30% faster. Merlin says this makes charging systems more efficient - without the need for expensive alternator controllers/ battery management systems.

Also, they say, most batteries are only able to accept 15-20% of their amp/ hour capacity per hour during charging. This means that charge times cannot be shortened beyond a given point without battery damage.

But Merlin's Lifeline has no upper charging current limit - so you can charge a single 100AH Lifeline battery at 500A plus.
