'Active' corrosion blocker

Worldwide Aviation is not a name that springs readily to mind when dealing with the leisure marine industry, but the company has a Canadian product they reckon will sell rather well.

As the name infers, it's a corrosion blocker, called Corrosion Block. And it's active, they say.

The company says most anticorrosion products on the market use compounds containing wax, resin, tar or Teflonbased material to seal the surface to prevent more moisture getting into an area of corrosion. But, says Worldwide Aviation, this doesn't do anything to prevent the existing moisture continuing to work in the corrosion cell.

Corrosion Block, they say, kills corrosion in progress and prevents new corrosion cells from forming for 12 - 18 months. It does this by penetrating the oxidation to start shutting down the electrolytic process chemically.

It then chemically displaces and/or emulsifies and encapsulates any moisture present and brings it to the surface, where it can evaporate. Corrosion Block then, they say, fills the corrosion cell, creating an atmospheric shield and a 40Kv dielectric barrier to prevent further moisture contact with the base metal.

In addition to all this, they say it is an excellent penetrant and light lubricant.

It's applied by spraying until the are appears shiny. If heavily corroded, the product will penetrate by capillary action.

On electrical systems, Corrosion Block works, they tell us, as a preventative and cure. It can remove moisture from the corrosion byproduct and isolating it from contacting the metal surface. The company's information contains some powerful testimonials to Corrosion Block having brought things like pagers back from the dead after having been dropped in the bilges.

Corrosion Block is available as a spray or in grease form and is, they say, "virtually nontoxic" and will clean easily off hands, clothes and painter surfaces with soap and water.
