Halyard alerts on blocked intakes

Floating rubbish, polythene bags and seaweed can all result in blockages to the sea water intakes on boat engines, leading to pump impeller damage and sometimes much more serious engine damage, says Halyard.

Taking three years to research and develop, Halyard's Sea Strainer Alarm is designed to alert owners to a blockage in the sea water flow to the engine.

By studying the flow between the strainer and the pump for hundreds of different types and sizes of engines, Halyard has developed a sensor so accurate that it will alarm immediately if water flow is seriously impeded, but will not alarm unnecessarily.

The accuracy and reliability of the system enables boat owners to shut down the engine immediately if there is a problem, buying precious minutes before pump impellers are damaged, or more serious engine overheat problems result.

As well providing on-going peace of mind, the Sea Strainer alarm system puts an end to the old habit of "peering over the stern" to check that water is flowing from the exhaust.

As an additional safety feature, the Sea Strainer will sound an alarm immediately if the engine is started with the seacocks closed.

The system is, says Halyard, easy to install and is available for single or twin engines on both 12v and 24v craft.
