Campbell's father and son both set world records in the original Vosper -built K4 Bluebird. Sir Malcolm set a new record at £141.74mph in 1939;
son Donald lifted it to 152mph in 1951, writes Dave Selby.
Now the boat has set another record for what must surely be record-breaking depreciation.
On July 17 at Bonhams' annual Henley-on-Thames maritime auction a full-size replica of the 1939 K4 Bluebird hydroplane sold for just £1100, inclusive of premium. The 28ft 1:1 scale model had been built at a cost of £45,000 to be the central display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
