'Thousands' head to the Scottish Boat Show
01 Sep 2004
The crowds gathered in the sun to see a selection of over 60 boats at the show - which is now in its second year. Powerboats, indestructible and unsinkable craft, fibreglass motor boats, wooden boats, coastal and canal cruisers, yachts, canoes and a brand new 13m puffer boat were all on display during the three day event.
"It was a tremendous weekend, " said Richard Millar, event director and waterway manager for the Lowland Canals. "We had some fantastic boats on show and the new leisure puffer Maryhill went down a storm with visitors. Not only did we get thousands through the doors but many of those attending sought out our experts to find out more about the leisure opportunities on the newly restored Lowland canals."
Early indications suggest that good business was carried out by many of the exhibitors. More definite indications of boat sales are expected over the next few weeks once serious interest is confirmed and concluded.
"The Scottish Boat Show was a huge success, bringing thousands of locals and visitors to the Falkirk Wheel, " said Liam Fennell, executive director of main event sponsor Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley.
