BoatScrubber: '39% improvement'

To illustrate speed loss caused by fouling - under power and sail - BoatScrubber Marine organised a "before and after" test in flat water and a constant breeze in Portsmouth Harbour.

A Bavaria 38 with conventional antifouling motored upwind and downwind over equal length legs with a dirty bottom at three different engine rev settings, documenting wind speed and boat speed by electronic log and GPS. The same exercise was repeated under sail on reaching and windward legs.

The boat then made a quick visit to the BoatScrubber "drive in" pontoon at Haslar Marina where the computer controlled rotating brushes of the BoatScrubber machine cleaned off the hull and rudder whilst the crew enjoyed a coffee down below.
