Bilge pump acts as back-up to main pump

Boat owners know that one of the most important pieces of equipment to have on board is a bilge pump.

As the primary pump on large boats and a high-capacity, emergency backup pump for smaller craft, American company Johnson says its new 4000 Bilge Pump is ideal.

As the premier model in Johnson Pump's line of submersible pumps, the 4000 boasts the capacity of its name - 4000gph. Although not necessary for the average pumping needs of a 25ft cruiser, Johnson says the 4000 is definitely up to the task as a backup should the unthinkable happen.

Featuring a built-in check valve that is exclusive to Johnson Pump, the unit is both cost-effective and easy to install. With a robust motor, mechanical shaft seal, high-impact ABS plastic body and what they claim is a unique threaded port design, they say the 4000 will outperform comparable pumps on the market.

The 4000 also comes with a universal base plate and offers the boater a choice of a 1 1/2" or 2" port and 12v or 24vDC models.
