Business oppor tunities in Puget Sound trade trip
01 Aug 2005
Up to 12 design firms, engineers, material suppliers and boatbuilders from the region are being given the opportunity to demonstrate their products and meet key industry figures in Seattle and the Puget Sound area, bordering Canada.
The visit includes two high profile conferences in Seattle and Bremerton to share ideas on new technologies, materials and designs with US companies, while showcasing the UK companies' products.
It also includes organised visits to the commercial, military and recreational marine companies locally. UK Trade & Investment staff will be on hand to advise and support the UK delegates before, during and after the trip.
The visit, from October 3 to 7, 2005, is being organised and funded by UK Trade & Investment Team South East and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).
Puget Sound is the United States' major marine employer.
Seattle alone has over eight major shipyards and over 20 smaller boatbuilding yards. It is the homeport of the north Pacific fishing fleet, handling 50% of all the fish caught in US waters. It is also the second biggest volume container centre in the country.
The area around Vancouver has the largest number of yacht builders in the world outside Europe, while 80% of all the superyachts manufactured in the United States are built locally.
"This is an outstanding opportunity for companies to get a foothold in the lucrative Puget Sound, said UK Trade & Investment Team South East's marine trade adviser Rachel Foy. "The area is daunting for marine companies from the UK to do business but this trip is ideal to build relationships with local companies and get an idea of how to win business in the United States.
UK Trade & Investment has a proven track record and expertise to help firms to achieve their potential overseas. Its network of embassy and locally based staff means it can give UK businesses an insight into who the key players are and where new business can be won.
"We will ensure that UK firms will meet the right people and target the right companies, " said Foy. "We give them the skills and confidence to compete in the international marketplace."
The deadline for applications is August 22, 2005. Contact Rachel Foy for more information on 07788 872423 or email rachel.foy@uktisoutheast.com
