As the smaller generators in the Paguro range use the Farymann diesel engine, Advance Yacht has also gained the area dealership for the Farymann marine diesel propulsion engine.
Finally, with the launch of the new 3.5m lightweight carbon fibre gangway from Exit Engineering, which has been nominated for an award at METS, Advance Yacht has continued to have a very busy and successful year.
Bainbridge International, which bought Aqua-Marine during 2005, introduced the new Lewmar Pro-Series windlass this year. Said to mark a new generation in anchoring solutions, Bainbridge says the new windlass boasts pulling power, fast line speeds and stainless steel styling which reflect the latest design and technology.
In addition, the company has been appointed UK distributor for new Flaties selfinflating cockpit cushions.
Another inflatable product is the Flo-up inflatable key chain. Bainbridge also brought in the Blue Performance range of awnings, sail clips, large and small cockpit bags, winch handle and sheet bags, sea map bags and winch covers.
Calibra Marine International is offering a new range of extremely bright, compact, surface mount Mast LED lighting bars, to the existing range of LED courtesy lights.
These slim, brushed aluminium units, typically measuring just 10mm deep by 30mm wide by 210mm long, contain three LED's that produce a total of 60 lumens (about the same as a 30 Watt lamp) which is adequate to read by.
Calibra is also handling the LED range from Cabin of Denmark. Available in red, white, blue and yellow with various finishes: stainless steel, aluminium/titanium, aluminium/ black, aluminium/white. These are also available as downlighters and with IP65 rating.
C-Quip says there have been many new additions to its product range over the last year. The company is reviving Spinnaker Yacht Varnish, a brand not seen in the UK for some years now, but one that once was very popular.
The company has also included Tempress seating from the US, Tracy boarding stairs and ladders also from the US, lamp fittings from Japan and has also increased the range already stocked from Index Marine, Aqua Signal, Charles Industries, Seaworld, Trident Hose, ARC Teak, Boatlife marine sealants and cleaners, Redtree paint application equipment and many others.
In addition they have a new range of sports wheels from existing suppliers Stazo in the Netherlands and hatches/ portlights and sunshades from Bomar in the US.
The greatest increase has been with C-Quip's range of stainless steel products with many new additions, from new pop-up cleats, fairleads and tank fillers to a whole new range of luxury interior lights made in stainless steel.
International Marine Products (IMP) told us that: "they made great leaps forward in 2005 with the introduction of two more high quality brands:
Lopolight LED navigation lights, a compact Scandinavian design, award winning and MCA approved; Lifetronic TV plasma lifts for maximum stability, slim profile and vibration resistant."
Other product developments this year included Gebo stainless steel covered portlights and hatches. Cantalupi Lighting introduced the new sealed underwater lights range.
Frensch lighting invested in more touch sensor LED technology and Zwaardvis added stainless pedestals, bases and new comfort helm seats. Oceanair also increased its range of blinds for boats and included soft furnishing to their portfolio.
IMP is looking forward positively for 2006 with a new website, www.improducts.co.uk to provide technical details and information on the full nine brands that are currently represented in the UK.
Index Marine has been very busy with turnover up again for the 9th year in succession and the company is constantly updating its range of marine electrical products. Index is now stocking a larger range of tinned cable, adhesive lined heatshrink terminals, new illuminated toggle switches, exterior work floodlight and digital volt and amp meters.
The most recent addition is a new range of interior lighting, and affordable LED bulbs.
Keypart, of Watford, represents several companies, one of which is Michigan Wheel Propellers. The company has a new stainless steel propeller called Apollo which is aimed at outboard engines from 30hp to sterndrive applications up to 300hp.
There are 3-bladed versions for standard applications, together with a large diameter 3-bladed type for large horsepower engines, primarily V6 and V8 petrol engines, and a 4-bladed Apollo aimed at heavier boats and pulling/ towing for watersports. Pricing of the products will be finalised shortly.
Mantsbrite is to launch the new Koden K-Link Integrated Navigation System on stand S2419 at the 2006 London Boat Show and will also be introducing the new Navicom RT-450 DSC Class D, VHF radio to the UK market - it's waterproof to JIS 7 standard with 55 International Channels and a 10 private programmable channels.
Marathon Leisure has spent much of 2005 identifying types of product that would complement its existing portfolio and has made some significant additions. Blue Seas Electrical Products, Headhunter Water Systems, RWO Deck Equipment, Anchor Marine Fenders, Cobra GPS Chart Plotters (to be launched Jan 06) Nautical Clothing range of jackets and fleeces, True utility multitools and torches have all been taken on within the last three months and will feature in the new 2006 Marathon catalogue, to be launched in December.
Marathon's managing director, Tim Millinder, told us:
"Our eventual goal is to become a one-stop shop where we can offer the complete solution to the small and mid sized retailer.
We have the financial resources, high quality staff and a very flexible approach to business which enables us to react to ever changing market conditions."
Marine Components Inter - national (MCI) has had a very busy year and is still carrying Bennett Marine, Maxwell Marine and Lasdrop products.
Since the last update, Bennett has brought out a new Tab Position Indicator and has just released another form of tab position indicator that uses the NMEA2000 protocol to show tab position on chart plotter, sonar etc.
Two new Maxwell horizontal rope/chain windlasses (HR6 and HR8) have been released and the company has also introduced new superyacht windlasses and capstans, catering for up to 32mm stud link chain.
MCI has added the Weaver range of hatches and portlights. Weaver has now been bought by Maxwell Marine, which has improved the range, quality and availability. The company also offers a new product called Bimineze, which is a way to adjust the tension in the frame supporting a boat's canvas covers and bimini's, enabling much better fit and easing the old problem of doing up fasteners on the canvas.
Following a recent visit to the Boatbuilders Exhibition (IBEX) in Miami, MCI will shortly be able to offer a range of anchors, bow-rollers and davits, to complement its range of Maxwell windlasses.
Marine Fire Safety introduced the FirePro fire extinguishing aerosol system, which is MCA approved, and Firemaster GTFE automatic extinguishers.
Marineware is offering Epifanes Multi Primer: a onecomponent primer with excellent adhesion to most substrates that can be over coated with one or two pack paint systems. This makes Epifanes Multi Primer ideal for the transition between any one or two-part paint finishes without the need to remove the existing coatings.
New Heath and Safety advances for the worldrenowned Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer: Awlgrip 545 has been reformulated to improve the health and safety of the product, without affecting any of the product's characteristics. Fully compatible for use in exactly the same way as the previous version though there will be a slight change in the smell.
Marineware is pleased to announce it has been appointed UK distributors for SABA deck caulking and Nautix antifouls.
SABA deck caulking and bonding is an outstanding range of deck caulking and bonding compounds as used by Amels, Feadship, Lurssen, Royal Van Lent etc.
Nautix is a range of selferoding and hard racing antifouls as used by all the Volvo 70s, Ellen MacArthur's B&Q Castrorama and the top three in the Vendee Globe race.
Mark Dowland Marine has been appointed a full line distributor for Teleflex Marine.
The announcement was made following the company's increasing push into premium technical brands and adds a significant range of key products that MDM has not had full coverage of to date.
The appointment as a full line distributor means MDM will be able to supply Teleflex BayStar and SeaStar Hydraulic steering systems, plus the Teleflex KE4, 5 & 6 Electronic engine controls. This complements the existing mechanical steering, controls and gauge range that MDM has been offering to the market since 2003.
Teleflex and MDM have identified hydraulic steering as a key growth area, with retail customers demanding greater comfort and ease of control in their boats. The change point is targeted at above 70hp units where the benefits of lighter, safer and easier steering control from hydraulic come into play.
MDM will be taking orders for Teleflex hydraulic and electronic systems from the middle of December with shipment commencing in January 2006.
The full range of mechanical steering and controls, plus the Teleflex gauge range are already available from stock.
"We have put a lot of effort into building a team to increase our technical and engineering sales with key people such as Bob Clark and Bob Churchill, and with their drive, experience and commitment we will make a real difference out there, " said Dowland.
MDM has also been appointed exclusive distributor for Shields Marine Hose for the UK, adding a significant range of hoses that MDM has not had full coverage of to date.
The Shields range offers every type of hose that could be required in a marine application, covering: fresh water/ potable, sanitation, engine, fuel, bilge, water heater, pitot, venting and most importantly a range of wet exhaust hose.
The wet exhaust range offers a variety of hoses with and without wire, and with corrugated and smooth finish.
The Shields Hose range is available in a wide variety of diameters, types and lengths.
It also offers the option for dealers to purchase Shields roll out cartons of hose on many of the fast moving lines which enables easy storage, protection and dispensing of the product in store Meridian Zero is relaunching Suunto Compasses from Finland and the full range of magnetic compasses from hand-bearing to large binnacle is now available from their Essex warehouse.
Meridian is also distributing Windex wind indicators from Sweden and the Skywatch Explorer range of wind instruments from Switzerland was introduced earlier this year to provide a very economical weather monitoring solution.
Navimo has enjoyed a busy year with the addition of the 4430 series Navman Fishfinders which were added to their range of products. Other Navman products introduced include two models from the Tracker range.
Canon and Plastimo binoculars were also added to the catalogue. Other products include the Pilot IOR 150N inflatable lifejacket and an inflatable Danbuoy with automatic inflation.
Ocean Safety launched a new survival suit in September specifically designed to meet new rules that will be in operation from July 2006 under SOLAS 111/32.3. The new Ocean Safety Survival (OSS) Suit is MED Ships Wheel approved and is designed to provide long-term protection to individuals immersed in freezing water as well as to be fast and simple to enter.
The company also introduced a new retro reflective tape in 2005, offering superior reflection properties and greatly increasing visibility in poor light conditions when fitted on equipment such as life jackets, life vests and rafts.
The New Zealand-manufactured Salcom Servo-Release hydrostatic release unit was also introduced. Ocean Safety says the new design is fully approved under the SOLAS 74/96 convention, and by the IMO, EU and US Coastguard.
And just in time for this issue is the first sight of the new baby lifejacket that will soon be available in the leisure catalogue.
Opas has taken on a number of new products over the last year. These include 316 and 304 stainless steel rings and spinnaker snap shackles. The company also has a new product, developed and manufactured by Opas, the new sewon Keder ball hook made from nylon 6, just like the sew on hook used on boom covers, awnings, etc. This product slides into 8mm caravan rail or keder track, making it ideal for banners, dodgers, boom covers, awnings, marquee walls and linings.
Also, available with 'T' bar rather that the sew-on square, it is able to hang from whatever it is attached to.
Opas has also removed a range of cabinet fittings, copper roves and nails, galvanized cup squares, coach bolts and a number of similar items from its catalogue.
SM Group continually adds to its catalogue and over the last year has added new C-Map Max cartography equipment, a number of the Garmin range of GPS units including the GPS60 the Map60 and both the 172 and 178 GPS chartplotters.
Products from GME, Icom, NASA, NavPods, Nextbase, Pacific, Raymarine, Simrad, SMG, Svensen and Victron have all been added.
The most recent addition to the range is the GME MT401FF EPIRB from Australia. The 401 model builds on the success of the 400 unit which was launched at the last London Boat Show and has notched up in the region of 700 - 800 unit sales.
Victory Marine has added a couple of new products to its range over recent months.
These include the Racing D100:100% Dyneema -12 braid construction rope with a polyurethane coating in five different colours. Also the Racing 4004, which has a strong abrasion resistant polyester cover with 100% Dyneema core.
The core is 12 braided with a polyurethane coating coloured to match the cover.
Yachtstyle has continued to supply chandlers with a range of practical products and the solo mast climbing kit, Topclimber, has (according to the company) been hugely successful, doubling the previous year's sales.
Other successful lines include Mikkimugs, which continue as ever and other galley equipment. The sales of knives and multitools are fairly static, but aluminium Tubeheaters in sizes from 300mm to 1200mm continue to sell steadily. The company has a new range of tools including a Pistol Saw for cutting in those awkward places and a compact extendable Spirit Level.
