Marina planned for Inverness harbour
01 Dec 2005
Plans have been published for the £9m redevelopment of Inverness har - bour, which will include a new 100 berth marina to replace the current 24 berth facility, writes Mike Balmforth.
Yachts approaching the Caledonian Canal outside sea-lock operating hours have for years had a berthing problem, as the existing Inverness Harbour Marina has no visitor berths, and the canal does not provide waiting berths or moorings, so anchoring in the strong tideway has been the only solution.
The new marina will be located close to the Kessock Bridge but within the new extended harbour confines, at the outermost end of a new area of reclaimed land which will also provide cargo and cruise ship berthing.
Completion is expected within two to three years.
