2005 Marine Industry Regatta

As we closed for press on this issue, entries for the 2005 Marine Industry Regatta stood at a confirmed 17, far in advance of the same time last year.

The list is: Bank of Scotland, BB, boatmatch. com, boats. com, Bruntons Propellers, Halyard, IPC 1, IPC 2, Lewmar 1, Lewmar 2, Lombard, Nav & Gen, Raymarine, Rockley Watersports, Spinlock, VT Halmatic and VT Shipbuilding.

Last year's inaugural regatta - won by Spinlock - saw 21 entries battling each other (and the conditions) in the eastern Solent in Sunsail's Jeanneau Sun Fast 37s. BB has reserved 30 boats for the 2005 regatta, which will be run out of Port Solent on Wednesday April 20.

Sponsored by Boating Business, Yachting Monthly and Practical Boat Owner, with help from Broadblue Catamarans and UK Sailing, the 2005 Regatta will cost £675 a boat.

Included in the cost is the charter, bacon butties for breakfast and a packed lunch for each crewmember, plus prizegiving drinks on the Wednesday evening right after racing finishes. Oh, and a £100 donation to the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

The boats must be collected on the Tuesday evening and there's a buffet meal in Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club that night at £10.95 a head.

A crew of eight is recommended for these boats and Sunsail is renewing its fleet for next year, so the boats will still be pretty new by the time we get our hands on them.
