Cougar delivers first of 20 Omani boats

Each of the 5.4-tonne boats will be used for coastal patrols along the Oman coastline, intercepting craft that arouse suspicion. By early next month the first of five craft will be in service, with the rest due to be delivered by the end of last year.
Halmatic has a workforce of about 300 in Portchester and took on about 20 extra staff to help build the boats. Bosses say the value of the Omani contract runs into several million pounds.
The 11 metre GRP craft, Cougar Enforcer 33 Ultra Fast Patrol Boats, are based on the Cougar 33 race The deal is the first major overseas success for the Halmatic Cougar Alliance, launched in 2001 to design, market and manufacture the Cougar range for military and commercial use.
