ETA's hi-tech electrical power management
01 Jan 2005
The ETA Powerbus system has power nodes around the boat to reduce long runs of heavy current wiring. It handles AC and DC circuits and operation is by means either of advanced touch screen displays or conventional switch panels, or a combination of the two, according to customer preference. The system is CANbus controlled and can therefore be interfaced with any other CANbus sensor to provide a whole range of new capabilities.
Software driven, the system is configurable from a laptop. When in operation, the touch screen panel offers displays that can be scrolled for different functions, such as navigation, engine management, navigation lights, etc. It can also be interfaced with a GSM link to provide two-way communication to an authorised user. This would enable the immediate notification of alarms from the boat or allow the heating and air conditioning, for example, to be set remotely.
The system will be made available to builders of larger recreational boats and workboats initially, before being rolled out to builders of smaller craft.
ETA says with a life expectancy in a typical boat in excess of 25 years, the system must be fully supportable and upgradeable by a manufacturer willing and able to make the commitment.
