Caterpillar targets 35'-50' planing hulls

Caterpillar has launched a new, higher powered version of its C9 marine propulsion engine, thanks to the introduction of its revolutionary new emissions and engine per - formance ACERT Technology.

The company says new engine technology helps Caterpillar raise the stakes in 35' - 50' planing hull pleasure craft and sport fishing markets.

The new C9 engine with ACERT Technology retains its 8.8 litre format and has the same dimensions as the existing 510mhp (375bkW) C9 engine but offers a new planing hull pleasure craft and sports fishing rating of 575mhp (423bkW) - designed to meet the high power, low weight, small footprint requirements of vessels in the 35' - 50' hull class.

The unit features new injectors, piston design and cylinder head design as well as new exhaust valves, turbo-charger arrangement and electronic control module - a combination which has enabled Caterpillar to increase engine power by almost 13%, with no impact on the dimensions, footprint or weight.
