Suzuki's big block motors for 2006

Launched at the Miami Boat Show, Suzuki's 150-horsepower (DF150) and 175-horsepower (DF175) outboard motors are planned for introduction later this year as 2006 models.

The new DF150 and DF175 are the most powerful four-cylinder outboards ever built by the Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Suzuki engineers have developed this all-new inline four-cylinder DOHC powerhead with 2867cc displacement, the largest in the category. This added displacement provides exceptional acceleration and velocity.

However, says Suzuki, big block displacement does not mean added size or weight, as these new motors are targeted to be the lightest, most compact 4-strokes of their kind.

The DF175 - shown here - features continuously variable valve timing. Other advanced features on both models include multi-stage induction and a 32bit onboard computer that monitors engine sensors and controls the multi-point sequential fuel injection system.

The DF150 and DF175 will swing a larger diameter prop than the typical 150-horsepower outboard and feature a more aggressive gear ratio to deliver superior acceleration, which will be appreciated by owners of high-performance leisure craft and RIBs.

Shaft lengths of 20" and 25" will be offered to fit the transoms of a wide range of fresh and saltwater boats, and counter rotation on 20" and 25" models will be available for twin engine installations on offshore boats and power catamarans.
