The first quarter period includes completed new boat builds from Southampton Boat Show 2004 and some business resulting from the January London Boat Show.

"While there is no doubt that boat buyers are being more circumspect and weighing up more fully the financial implication of trading up or buying a boat for the first time, these figures confirm that our business is currently continuing apace with 2004 levels, " said Peter Whitehead, BoS' director, marine.

"When viewed alongside other business sectors such as car sales, house sales and the retail sector, I believe that the marine leisure finance business is performing well and I am pleased with this start to the year."
