01 May 2005
"In my work I have experienced the power of the waterways at the heart of exciting regeneration projects in our major cities. So I start with a passion for this great organisation, " said Hales.
Tony Hales made an impact on shareholders at Allied Domecq when he resigned after eight years as the company's chief executive that were described by the Mail on Sunday as a "less than illustrious period at the helm".
Following his resignation, he was given a £1m golden handshake. It's reported he then sued the group for more, receiving another £1.3m to top up his pension fund, plus other financial benefits.
He is currently chairman of Workspace Group plc, which is described as a specialised property based business devoted to the provision of office, studio and light industrial workspace for small businesses.
