Outer Hebrides Sailing Directions

Revision of the Clyde Cruising Club's benchmark Sailing Directions to Scottish waters reaches completion with the publication of a new edition of the Outer Hebrides section, writes Mike Balmforth.

This is the sixth and last to be completely revised to include newly drawn charts and colour illustrations and includes a good deal of new information, particularly on The Sound of Harris, where major buoyage changes have taken place, and popular anchorages at Eriskay and Rodel.

Altogether some 200 anchorages are described and illustrated, stretching from Barra Head to Butt of Lewis, and including the western archipelagos of the Monach and Flannan Isles, and the St Kilda group.

Sailing Directions editor Arthur Houston may have masterminded the revisions and redesign, but he would be the first to acknowledge the help given by other club members, including Edward Mason, who prepared the text and the plans, and his volunteer editorial team of Elizabeth Johnston, Ian Buchanan, Malcolm McGregor, and former editor Ian Michie.

The 110 page A4 book is in stock now with trade discounts available by ordering from the club (0141 221 2774). The cover price is £26.95
