Pumpkin goes; Birchwood - who knows?

Pumpkin Marine went into creditors voluntary liquidation on October 18, according to the liquidator, Eastleigh-based Jim Pretty of Atherton Bailey.

The exhibition stand was left deserted after the Southampton Boat show, leaving National Boat Shows to dismantle it, and a sign on the door of the Northney outlet said only "closed due to flooding".

The total deficiency amounted to £388,698, leaving a nasty taste in the mouths of many suppliers. According to Pretty, Pumpkin was "a victim of the downturn in consumer spending".

Birchwood Marine International seems to have gone into administration, but BB couldn't find anyone who could confirm this.

What was confirmed by sales manager Chris Manners is that he has several Birchwood staff working for him at Penton Hook Marine Sales. Adding to the mystery are tales of trucks taking away anything not bolted down from the Nottingham premises.

And a Norfolk-based investor is waiting in the wings, ready to stage yet another phoenix-like rise from the ashes.
