  • Trade show returns Boating Business Exhibition to run next February at BIC

    The parent company of Boating Business - Mercator Media Ltd (MML) - reached an agreement with the British Marine Federation (BMF) and National Boat Shows Limited (NBS) shortly before the Southampton Boat Show over the future of the UK's leisure marine trade event.

    The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) has welcomed the jailing in Majorca of one of its former instructors who issued fake RYA qualifications.

    Announced at the Southampton Boat Show, B A Peters plc has signed an agreement with the Azimut-Benetti Group and Med Sale that makes BAP a retail dealer for Azimut Yachts.

    The continuing revitalisation of Scotland's inland water - ways has reached a major milestone with the formal opening of a new £1.2m mooring basin and the announcement of a proposed new canalside pub and restaurant at Auchinstarry, near Kilsyth, on the Forth & Clyde Canal.

    The Silva Group has set up a wholly owned subsidiary, Silva Nexus Marine AB. The new company will provide a focus for the extensive marine activities of the Silva Group and will take responsibility for research and development, product development, sales and marketing and service across the entire marine product range. 

  • Get set for the 2006 Marine Industry Regatta

    It's time to start thinking about next year's Marine Industry Regatta (MIR). This year's MIR was another highly successful event which, while the weather wasn't too kind to us (light and flukey all day), managed to bring together 30 marine industry companies from Sealine International, through Spinlock (2004 winners), Henri-Lloyd, Oval 316, VT Halmatic, Bruntons Propellers, Lewmar, etc.

    Malcolm Gardiner, the founder of MG Boats, passed away just before the Southampton Boat show. 

  • JPC adds boat sales division

    Norfolk based JPC has launched JPC Boat Sales, to be based at Wroxham's Powles Marina. This new division becomes part of a burgeoning marine conglomerate that takes in the Lowestoft operation, two boating holiday companies, marine equipment wholesaling and an established boatyard facility at its main Wroxham base.

    The 7th International Sailing Summit (ISS) is set to return to Amsterdam on the day before METS this year - Monday November 14. 

  • Callus leaves Navimo UK

    As we closed for press we heard Paul Callus had left Navimo UK on the Friday after the Southampton Boat Show. 

  • Scottish Executive Marine Strategy launched

    Three pilot projects aimed at improving the management of the marine and coastal environment were announced as the Executive's Marine and Coastal Strategy was published, writes Mike Balmforth. 

  • Dover collects IWA award

    Following our story last month about the narrowboat Dover appearing on the Discovery Real Time Channel and making her debut at the Inland Waterways Association (IWA) Festival, we hear that not only did she perform perfectly on her way up to Preston Brook, she won a prize as well. 

  • Simrad sells yachting business

    The Kongsberg Group has announced the sale of the Simrad Yachting business to Nordic investment company, Altor. Simrad's commercial fishing activities will remain with Kongsberg, and will be integrated into the company's extensive hydroacoustic business.
