Standard's fish finding chart plotter
01 Oct 2005
They say the new FF520 launched at Southampton can be added very easily to any of their leading chart plotters, the Standard Horizon CP155C, CP175C or CP1000C.
The addition of the FF520 means the user can now obtain a colourful representation of all that lies beneath. The presence of fish can be indicated by several means - such as actual fish symbols, or a coloured echo.
By zooming in, images can be magnified by up to four times normal size and when fish are swimming close to the bottom, a white line can be added to help distinguish between the fish and the seabed.
Sensitivity Time Control is built-in, which allows the reduction or elimination of surface clutter, allowing the user to concentrate solely on the information important to them. Dual frequency of 50/200kHz allows for use in both shallow and deeper water, with alarms, increased detail, and split-screen features available.
Installation is straightforward and can be carried out by the boat's owner without the need for professional help. One cable simply connects to the plotter, whilst the black box itself can be hidden away, out of sight.
A separate transducer is required, and Standard Horizon produces a number of these, specifically to work in conjunction with the FF520 and its plotters. The "Xducer ID" detection system, which is built into the FF520, automatically detects the power output and configures the parameters to ensure the best possible performance, according to the transducer connected.
The FF520 has a recommended retail price of £319.00 inc VAT, with transducers starting from £69.00 inc VAT.
