Yamaha's Hydra Drive with TRP

Yamaha launched its new Hydra Drive range, which extends from the 165hp ME370 through to the powerful 315hp ME432 with two models between, the 245hp ME422 and the 275 hp ME422 High Output.

Although the engines themselves are new to the European market, Yamaha says it is the drive unit partnering the Hydra Drive engines which will be most likely to make an immediate impact on potential customers.

Yamaha claims the Hydra Drive unit offers "A whole new driving experience". They say the improvement in performance over conventional systems Yamaha has achieved with the compact, hydraulically operated multi-plate clutch system of the Hydra Drive offers a unique level of precision, smoothness and quietness of shifting action.

They say it offers genuine fingertip control at slow speed and in particular, more relaxed control when manoeuvring and docking.

For maximum performance and "no-torque" steering control, Yamaha has also introduced a special TRP version featuring twin counterrotating propellers. The TRP can be specified for any Hydra Drive installation and adds easier handling and more control, especially at high speed, whether used with single or twin installation.

Twin installations also have the advantage of the Yamaha dual remote control unit with single-button trim.

The design of the lower is the result of extensive highspeed testing in sophisticated hydrodynamics laboratories as well as out on the water. The shape and underwater profile have been fine-tuned to ensure optimum stability, and the design ensures minimum resistance.
