It then set up in New Zealand in 1983, operating in yacht and commercial vessel design in both countries until relocating to the UK in 1990, working with FBM Marine in fast ferry design and VT Shipbuilding in international sales and marketing and superyacht marketing, in association with the Mirabella V project.

FMD operated in New Zealand during the 1980's and produced a wide variety of vessels ranging from the 30m MV Kea, The Auckland - Devonport cross harbour catamaran ferry, to the radical 20m Monomaran performance yacht Silver Bullet.

Re-established in 2005 and based in Southampton, Firth Marine Design offers the international marine industry services in yacht and boat design, concept development for owners and shipyards, design development and model testing services, CAD/CAM services to the shipbuilder, project management for new build and repair/alteration and an innovative and committed approach to marine design and development projects, developed over the last 30 years in the business.
