Seago replaces faulty safety lines

Seago says it has replaced a number of safety lines after an internal quality check revealed a batch had faulty springs in the latch return mechanism.

"Since we started we've had something like 30,000 hooks made, " said financial director Andrew Mills. "The first batch of 20,000 were fine. The third batch we did notice there were a few springs that were not made of stainless steel."

We quality check that all the time, said Mills. The third batch was 10,000 hooks and we still had 8,800 of that batch in stock and we recalled whatever the balance is - the 1200 out in the market place which are being made up into lines.

"It's not a product recall, in fact we've now got back everything that we're not happy with and it's now being replaced with new stock, " he told BB .Managing director Simon Cash-Reed confirmed the move in a statement issued to BB on August 23:

"Seago Yachting has returned a small number of safety lines to the manufacturer for re-inspection following a quality audit.

The inspection covers safety lines sold after the 1st of July 2005.

New stock has been issued to all Seago customers.

"We have excellent quality control systems in place which enabled us to remedy the situation and ensure continuity of supply for all our customers" said Simon Cash-Reed, managing director."
