And here's some of what you can see at the Southampton Boat Show
01 Sep 2005
"As the last 12 months have seen changes in the housing market, buyers might wish to re-examine any pre-conceived opinions regarding finance, " he says, pointing out a marine mortgage is an alternative way of funding the purchase of a boat, rather than equity release.
Barclays Marine Finance - F20 Barclays Marine Finance says it is anticipating an excellent show, having just recorded its highest ever single monthly total for lending of £22.4m to a record number of individual customers during the month of June.
James Crew, Barclays' senior marine manager, attributes the success to a combination of a strong pull-through from dealer recommended referrals, leads from within the Barclays group and brand new prospects, many making their initial enquiry online.
"At this stage in the year, we have achieved almost 90% of last year's final figure, " said Crew.
"Therefore, we fully expect to achieve a record year in 2005.
Based upon this sort of performance, we can only anticipate and look forward to what should be an extremely good Southampton show for us".
Beneteau - F015 The latest addition to the Antares range of leisure motor boats is the Antares 6.6 which is the smallest to feature an inboard engine.
The boat benefits from a semiplaning hull with a prominent V, guaranteeing perfect stability even when moored, and excellent seaworthiness.
The Antares 6.6 is developed by the Beneteau Power Office with Patrice Sarrazin (ESD) who was responsible for the styling of the recently launched Antares 12 and Flyer 12. Beneteau says it's very economical and efficient thanks to the new Volvo D3 - 110hp engine which achieves a maximum speed of 20kts and a cruising speed of 14kts.
Patrick Boyd Multihulls - berth 086 Patrick Boyd Multihulls will be showing the new Privilege 495 catamaran, making her debut in UK waters.
The Privilege 495 is part of Alliaura Marine's luxury catamaran range, designed by Marc Lombard and built at Les Sables d'Olonne, one of France's most famous sailing areas.
At 49'5" LOA (14.95metres), the 495 effectively replaces the 465 and was first seen at the Paris boat show in December of last year.
The show boat is seriously for sale.
C-Map - G114 C-Map has launched a new, updated 2005 version of its popular Solent Racing Chart, which features all the 2005 racing marks within the Solent.
The company says it's the only electronic cartography manufacturer to develop a chart solely for racing and this will be particularly helpful to those taking part in Cowes Week, Round the Island, and other Solent-based racing events.
Traditionally, C-Map charts are based upon information supplied by the Admiralty.
Although some of the temporary racing marks were included within the Admiraltybased charts, users would need to zoom in to a tremendous degree in order to display them.
Cooney Marine - D026 Cooney is giving away five pairs of lightweight swivelling davits at the show. Draws will take place throughout the 10 days of the show and applications are available from our stand.
Cooney has run similar promotions in the past, but giving away only one pair of traditional davits. The promotion brought a lot of attention to the stand, they say, so they're doing a much bigger giveaway this year that, they say, gives everyone a better chance of winning.
Digital Yacht - G093 Digital Yacht has expanded its product line-up to include the sale and installation of plasma screens and total entertainment networks for yachts and motorboats.
The company is showing the Digital Yacht 42" plasma screen - the first in its own range of plasma and LCD screens.
The screen supports a PC style input for connection to media centre PCs as well as a traditional video-type connection for TV or video. It's designed to fit directly to a bulkhead, but optional table top and plasma lift systems are available.
The heart of the system uses a top quality plasma panel manufactured by electronics giant Samsung to give outstanding colour vibrancy and contrast.
Ecosea - A015 A special 15% discount is on offer for any boat owner who places an order with Ecosea (or with one of its approved Installers) for a Cuprotect application (on the condition that a 25% deposit is paid before the end of September).
Cuprotect is guaranteed to prevent bio-fouling for five years and has a service life in excess of 10 years.
Ecosea says Cuprotect is applied by professional installers, is fast to apply and provides a highly effective uniform coating, comprising particles of copper nickel alloy that are sprayed onto a bed of epoxy resins.

Honda - C050 Honda has its biggest stand at this year's show, described as an incredible 800 sq m smorgasbord packed with everything from marine engines and inflatables to Formula One cars, race simulators and all terrain vehicles.
So visitors (and maybe exhibitors as well) can test their wheel-changing skills on a replica BAR F1 car.
Other attractions are trips in a Honda Formula 4-Stroke race boat and other gentler craft equipped with Honda products.
And, it says here, if you prefer racing on dry land, aim for the Honda S2000 car simulator or admire the British championship-leading SPT450R all terrain vehicle.
The stand also includes Honda's esteemed inflatable range and will be the location for the UK launch of three new Honda Marine products. It will also feature a selection of Honda's energy and lawn and garden equipment.
And there's even a Honda ice cream stand on site? IPC Marine Media - E2, E3, E4, E5 and F31 IPC is launching a unique oneoff publication to coincide with the show.
Boat Advertiser is a collection of brokerage and private advertising taken from IPC's leading yachting and sailing titles - Motor Boat & Yachting, Motor Boats Monthly, Yachting World, Practical Boat Owner and Yachting Monthly.
Distributed free at key points throughout the show, including nine of IPC's own stands, it will offer over 120,000 visitors to the show the opportunity to browse through thousands of boats for sale.
Boat Advertiser was originally planned at 32 pages, but IPC says the pagination was increased to 84 to meet the demand from industry advertisers, allowing space for a subscription promotion and redemption vouchers campaign across the portfolio.
Oceanique - C018 Oceanique is showing the Kral Classic 700. It has classic modern lines, elegant design and striking head-turning looks.
Sculpted in mahogany, brilliantly UV varnished, fixtures in stainless steel, hand laid GRP hull and powered by gasoline or diesel engines.

Stand F7 will be showcasing Legends, which will feature the 31 and the brand new Legend 45 Centre Cockpit, straight in from the US. Stand F9 will focus on the Bavaria brand, including the new cruising yachts 30, 33, 37 and 39 and racing match series.
The marina berths D195 to D198 will provide the setting for the long awaited world launch of the Island Packet 440.
Ronstan - G041 Ronstan says its T-ring - shown here - revolutionises headsail sheet attachment, replacing traditional headsail clew ring and clip systems providing weight and cost savings, improved safety and reliability.
It allows quick and simple attachment of sheets and eliminates the possibility of the clew catching on the mast or shrouds during tacks, and the associated costly damage to spars and rigging.
The Ronstan T-ring is available in three sizes to cover boats from 6m to 20m.
Standard Horizon - G115 Standard Horizon chart plotters provide a multitude of features, but they have not been able to perform any fishfinding functions - until now.
The new FF520 can be added very easily to any of the company's chart plotters, the CP155C, CP175C or CP1000C.
The addition of the FF520 means that the user can now appreciate a colourful representation of all that lies beneath. The presence of fish can be indicated by several means - such as actual fish symbols, or a coloured echo.
Sunseeker - J105; berths 357/ 358/359 Sunseeker has a bigger stand - nearly 1,400sq m - in a brand new location: next door to the Guinness stand in Solent Park.
The new stand gives visitors great views of the Sunseeker Predator 108, 82 Yacht and 75 Yacht which are moored at the end of the decked walkway.
The stand has a large balcony overlooking the marina with a triple-deck structure incorporating an additional tower emblazoned with the Sunseeker logo, giving it 360infinity visibility.
The company has 12 boats on display.
Tacktick- G082 Tacktick says its Micronet wireless instrument system made quite an impact when it was launched in 2002.

Klemen Puklavec, Niko Prodan and Andrej Knego met whilst studying mechanical engineering at university in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Working together, the three men developed new technology in vacuum infusion, epoxy and carbon.
They obtained the intellectual property rights to the Westerly brand, contracts and technical tooling, owned by Gordon Mowat and Jeremy Hood, both resident in the United States.
And so Westerly was reborn.
Again.
The Westerly GK 35 is the result. An Ed Dubois design moulded using a vacuuminfusion process derived from the aeronautical industry, using high-tech carbon fibre mat, the boat has Harken deck kit, Tacktick instrumentation and a Yanmar saildrive.
