RYA gets £300,000 injection

RYA Scotland has received a sportscotland financial injection of £300,000 that will benefit sailors of all levels and from coast to coast, writes Mike Balmforth.

The funding, of which just over £170,000 is sportscotland lottery funding, will provide support to key areas of the governing body's business plan including medal success and the high-performance programme, boat replacement, coaching and staffing, and volunteer and club development.

"This funding will support Scotland's elite sailors as they strive for success at the highest level whilst investing in new young talent that will grace the waves in top competitions of the future, " said Scottish sports minister Patricia Ferguson.

"Funding will also be directed at young people who live in areas not traditionally associated with sailing, providing new opportunities to participate in this exciting sport."
