Sabre sees 17% growth

Sabre Engines says production at its Wimborne factory in 2005 grew by 17% over the previous year, writes Iain Sutherland.

According to commercial director Paul Freeman, most of the growth is attributed to the company's latest generation of Perkins Sabre engines that comply with environmental standards that have yet to come into force.

Exports had a major impact on Sabre's year-on-year growth, says the company, with Israel, Australasia and Russia being singled out as star performers. Domestic sales were also described as "encouraging".

As a result, prospects for 2006 remain strong. According to Freeman, the company plans to unveil new Perkins Sabre propulsion and onboard generator set engines in November this year at METS in Amsterdam. The new propulsion engines are expected to extend the top end of the current Perkins Sabre range.
