Clydeport encourages leisure sailing
01 Aug 2006
Clydeport plc is the "big daddy" organisation of the Firth of Clyde, but despite managing increasing commer - cial shipping traffic, and major shoreside residential and business developments, it has been paying increasing attention to its marine leisure side over the past year or two, writes Mike Balmforth.
Largs Regatta Week is jointly run by Largs Sailing Club and Largs Yacht Haven at the end of August. It is one of the biggest events on the estuary, attracting around 150, mostly Clyde based boats, to Largs for a week of short passage and regatta courses, and a good deal of social activity ashore. Sponsorship by Clydeport for the next five years ensures that the expensive parts of an event, the marketing and the entertainment elements, will be fully funded.
