Fishing’s easy with a Cannon
01 Dec 2006
New to the UK, the devices consist of a winch operated reel which feeds a weighted cable along a compact boom and down in to the water. The fishing rod slots into an adjustable holder on top of the downrigger and the fishing line is attached to the cable.
The weighted cable takes the fishing line down to a pre-determined depth with a 3-digit depth counter. When the fish strikes, a quick release mechanism detaches the fishing line from the cable so the fisherman can take over.
But, says Johnson, Cannon downriggers don’t just offer precise fishing depth. Often the metal components of a boat create a negative electrical charge in the water. However, fish are attracted by a slight positive charge. So, using Positive Ion Control, Cannon downriggers allow fishermen to create and adjust the perfect positive charge around the boat to attract more fish.
