Marathon to launch stockist scheme

The scheme will provide a whole series of benefits for the retailer, including national magazine advertising in consumer boating magazines, the provision of 18,000 giveaway 400 page full colour marine equipment catalogues, an online presence on both Marathon Leisure’s own website and advertisements on other marine related internet sites.
The Marathon stand at the London Boat Show in January 2007 will give consumers the opportunity to obtain £15 gift vouchers that can later be used in every store across the UK and Ireland that has signed up for the scheme. All of these combined will create tremendous exposure and pull through of product sales.
The initial concept was presented to 65 retailers who attended an all day conference next door to the Marathon business premises on Hayling Island in October. Feedback and opinion has been extremely positive with over 90% of attendees agreeing in principle to take part in the scheme which launches on January 1, 2007.
Unlike other stockist schemes, there are no limitations on numbers or geography.
‘We wanted a scheme whereby all of our customers, regardless of their size would be able to benefit from this investment,’ said Tim Millinder, Marathon MD. ‘We are injecting over £140,000 over the next couple of years to provide significant support for this scheme and feedback so far has been extremely encouraging. It is very important.’
