North Sails Golf Day makes £17,025
01 Dec 2006
A total of 90 golfers turned out for the 10th North Sails Golf Day in aid of the John Merricks Sailing Trust (JMST) in October at Cams Hall in Fareham. The day’s proceedings raised a record total of £17,025.
The JMST supports young sailors and junior sailing projects in financial need. It has awarded over £121,000 to individuals or projects that seek to further youth sailing – of that total, the North Sails Golf Day has raised £98,764 in its 10 years.
Olympic medallists Sarah Ayton and Sarah Webb made an impact on the course with their new team mate Pippa Wilson and together they presented all the prizes at the end of play.
Rob Wilson scored 48 Stableford points off his 28 handicap to win the day, leaving Nick Dempsey a close second and Brett Draper and Robin Irving in equal third overall.
The £17,025 was raised via an auction run by John Irving of Nautor’s Swan and various other devices for extracting money from people. Richard Matthews of Oyster Marine put up £500 for every birdie on the 13th (named Oystercatcher). This sum was matched by Ib Andersen from North Sails and the pair added £5000 to the day.
