BTM III offers more data monitoring

Mastervolt says since its introduction some five years ago, the BTM I battery consumption meter has become one of the most popular pieces of marine equipment among boat owners.

They say BTM III, the new and improved version, now offers more data monitoring and user friendliness than ever before, for the same purchase price.

Installing a BTM battery consumption meter can help avoid many nasty surprises, such as a flat battery at an inopportune moment. The BTM has also been recognised as the easiest system to install, use and maintain by charter companies such as Sunsail, which have made the decision to equip their entire rental fleets with it.

In a number of countries, including France and the Netherlands, it was also found to be best in test by local nautical magazines.

The new BTM III battery consumption meter features a number of major improvements. Instead of the previous two, three battery banks can now be monitored separately.

Accuracy has improved from 95% to 99%, while power consumption has decreased by 30%.

The maximum charge/discharge current measurement has been extended from 500 to 1000A by utilising an improved type of shunt. The BTM III now also offers automatic charge efficiency factor calculation with indication of the remaining cycle of the battery.

More historical data can be obtained from the BTM III:

number of hours that the battery remained discharged, average discharge over a period, number of days since the last complete recharge, etc.

An abuse counter has been added for the purpose of monitoring excessively complete or very slow discharges, which can cause major damage to semitraction batteries. Mastervolt says it has again shown its dedication to its international clientele by making BTM III readout protocols available in 10 different languages: English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish.

The meter is NMEA 0183 compatible, making it fully capable of communi-cation with other systems.

It's available this month.
