'Business as usual' at Sail Scotland

Sail Scotland, the Scottish marine industry's co-operative marketing group, held a successful press presentation at London Boat Show, featuring Shetland's sponsor - ship of the Round Britain and Ireland Race, and details of the Bell Lawrie Scottish Series, writes Mike Balmforth.

The new stand location, on the main sailboat alley, was voted a success by members, with visitor numbers and brochure take-up achieving satisfactory levels.

The opportunity was also taken by chief executive Jim Wilson to announce that he would be leaving for pastures new after 10 years building and running the operation. Martin Latimer has also indicted that he will be resigning from the chairmanship.

Director Tony Bennett (Argyll Yacht Charters) told BB:

"Although Jim's departure creates an opportunity to restructure, it's 'business as usual', which has been defined as representing the Scottish industry at London, Southampton and at least one overseas boat show each year."

He added: "VisitScotland, the national tourist body, has indicated that it will continue to support Sail Scotland financially with exhibitions, the annual brochure and the Sail Scotland website.

"There will be a meeting of Sail Scotland members in the near future to discuss and take these opportunities forward."
